Steps to Playing Hockey

#1 Learn to Skate    

The Summit Sports and Ice Complex offers Learn to Skate Classes based on USFSA Curriculum to keep skaters enthusiastic about learning to skate as well as engaged through various methods. This program caters to all ages and skaters regardless of level, ranging from Freestyle skaters to Hockey Players. (Ages 3 & up recommended)

#2 Sparties (Learn to Play Hockey)

The Summit Sparties/LTP program is geared towards preparing skaters for their first step in their hockey journey. This program teaches the fundamentals of hockey while working on the development of each player’s skating, balance, agility, shooting and stick handling abilities. All of these are incorporated in a fun and competitive environment that works on building each player’s confidence on the ice.

#3 Join Lansing Hockey Club 

The Lansing Hockey Club provides recreational and competitive youth hockey in age specific levels through USA Hockey and the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association.

Sparties/LTP 4 – 7 years old
Mini-Mite 5 – 8 years old
Mite 7 & 8 years old
Squirt 9 & 10 years old
PeeWee 11 & 12 years old
Bantam 13 & 14 years old
Midget 15 – 18 years old

Mini Mites Winter 2019-2020

  • Ages 5-8 years old
  • Tuesday and Sunday evenings, 5:30pm-6:20pm
  • September 17th – March 31st
  • $650 for 26 sessions Class Tuesdays & Sundays
  • Program serves as an introduction to “team” play with practice sessions and small-ice games.  
  • Two 50-minute skates each week. One on Tuesday evenings at 5:30-6:20 pm (Summit) and one on Sundays at 3:00 pm (SIEL).
  • Teams will be grouped into lines based on skill and experience.
  • Lines will be matched during all game situations to ensure that players are playing at their competitive level.
  • Weekly practice sessions focus on fundamental skating and puck skills using skill stations and small-ice games.
  • Full Equipment required (equipment available free of charge on a first come first serve basis)

Learn to Play Hockey Spring 2020

  • Ages 4-8 years old
  • Tuesday evenings 5:30pm-6:20pm
  • April 14th – June 2nd
  • $125 for all 8 sessions or $20 per session
  • Players will be divided according to age & skill.
  • Development of skating & puck skills.
  • This course is recommended as a second step for beginning hockey players who completed a Learn 2 Skate class and/or have a solid base of fundamental skating skills.
  • Full Equipment required (equipment available free of charge on a first come first serve basis).
